Unilorin Ban On Sales Of Handout And Journals By Lecturers Still In Force-See Details

The sales of handout and or journals by the lectures of Unilorin has been banned by the management of University of ilorin, Ilorin.

The official statement released by the management concerning that is shown below:

The management of the University of Ilorin has reminded all lecturers in the University that the ban on the sale of hand-outs, journals and lecturer’s publications is still in force.

This was stated last Thursday (October 27, 2016) by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. (Mrs.) N. Y. S. Ijaiya, at an interactive session with members of the academic staff to usher in the 2016/2017 Academic Session.

Prof. Ijaiya, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), at the interactive session, said that no staff is allowed to sell any publication or hand-out to students under any guise.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor said, “Let me use this opportunity to remind everybody that the University’s position on the sales of hand-outs, journals, and lecturers’ publication is still in force. No staff should sell his/her hand-out to students under any guise. They can only be recommended. The University Bookshop is there as the appropriate point of sales of such materials”.

She appealed to everybody to join hands with the University Administration to keep the flag of the University flying high, saying, “We can’t afford to turn back”.

Speaking on the essence of the interactive session, Prof. Ijiaya said that it was meant to be a sensitization forum and to create connections among and between lecturers of the University.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor said that the programme had achieved its purpose, but staff should do more if they need to be like others, adding, “Some two years ago, the University upgraded its bandwidth with N2 million to STM4 to facilitate teaching, learning and research”. She, however, added that “the University notes that the resources have not been maximally utilised by the entire University community.”

She disclosed that the University is now being served by a very strong and reliable partner that will enable the University achieve its desired goal with ease.

Prof. Ijaiya said that in getting the maximal usage of the bandwidth, all academic staff should be on Google Scholar platform with their institutional address, increase institutional repository and uploading and updating all Ph.D theses and contents on the University website. She added that by using it in all correspondences, internally and externally, and in all academic publications they can all identify with the University as a great citadel of learning.

Highlights of the programme, which was attended by academic staff of the University, including Deans and Heads of Departments, included presentations on how to create a Unilorin Web Address and Learning Management System (LMS) by Mr. A.B. Yusuf; Institutional Repository (IR) by Engr. A. J. Adesina and creating Unilorin Social Media Platform by Mr. Abubakar Musa.
