Before we proceed, this is to inform all direct entry (DE) aspirants who wish to apply for direct entry (DE) admission into any of the universities in Nigeria to study Health Education under the faculty of Education that Health Education direct entry requirements are now available on this page.

Direct Entry (DE) Requirements for Health Education

Without wasting much time, the direct entry requirements to study Health Education are:

(i) Diploma in Health Educ., Environmental Sanitation, Physical Educ., Social work, Health Admin. with overall grades of merit plus three ‘O’ level credit/TC II merit passes which should include English Language.

(ii) NCE in Biology, Health Educ., and Integrated Science with a pass grade 2 ‘O’ level credit/TC II merit passes.

(iii) Registered Nurse plus 5 ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UI accept passes in two major subjects at the NCE/’A’ level with GCE ‘O’ level credits or equivalent in three other subjects in Arts, Social Science and Science.

(ii) DELSU accept ‘A’ level passes, NCE and any three other ‘O’ level or TC II subjects passed at credit/merit level.

(iii) UNIUYO accept RN/NRN, Public Health Nursing officers’ Certificate, Advanced Diploma in Health Education, Health Superintendent Certificate and equivalent qualification.

(v) LASU accepts NCE Physical Education at merit level and TC II in Arithmetic process/ Mathematics. Does not accept ND or HND.

(vi) UNIBEN for Health Education:
(a) requires two NCE merit passes one of which should be Health Education, Biology or Integrated Science plus three ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language at one sitting.
(b) Registered Nurse Certificate and four ‘O’ level credit passes at one sitting including English Language.

(vii) UNIBEN for Physical Education :
(a) requires 2/3 NCE merit passes chosen from Physical Education, Health Education, Biology and Integrated Science plus 3/2 ‘O’ level passes including English Language at one sitting.

(viii) OAU (For Physical and Health Education) accepts two ‘A’ Level credit passes which could be from any subject area. NCE in Physical and Health Education plus U.M.T.E. requirements. Certificate in Nursing (RN) Health Education Community/Public Health/Hygiene is acceptable as equivalent of A level NCE in Primary Education Studies and any other teaching subject is also acceptable

(ix) UNN accepts:
For Physical Education
(a) 2 or more A’ level passes in GCE/HSC of which one must be Biology/Zoology plus UTME requirement,
(b) At least merit level pass in NCE Health and Physical Education/Integrated Science/Food and Nutrition.
(c) Merit level pass in National Institute for Sports (NIS) certificate.
For Health Education:
(a) Public Health Nursing or/Registered Nurse (RN)/ Registered Midwife (RM)/ Registered Nurse Tutor (RNT)/ Community Heath officer (CHO) Certificates Merit level in NCE Health and Physical Education or Biology/ Integrated Science/ Food and Nutrition from an approved College of Education recognized by the University of Nigeria.

(x) UNIMAID requires Certificate in Nursing/ Midwifery or equivalent in addition to Direct Entry requirements.

(xi) UNILORIN may interview all candidates seeking admission into the Department of Physical and Health Education. Accept NCE/TC II with merit grade.

(xii) TASUED accepts:
a. NCE with at least Merit in related subjects – Physical Education, Health Education, Biology, plus UTME requirement.
b. Registered Nurse plus UTME requirement
c. Two ‘A’ level passes in Physical Education, Health Education, Biology, plus UTME requirement.

(xiii) UNIUYO accepts candidates without A/level or NCE Mathematics but must take remedial in the subject in year one.

(xiv) OAU (For Health Education) accepts two NCE or A/ Level Credit/Merit including Biology or Health Education and any other subject UME requirements Certificate/ Nursing (RN)/Health, Education/Health Science/Community/Public Health/Hyiegene is acceptable as equivalent of A level.

Note that the above direct entry requirements may only apply to Health Education under the faculty of Education.
