This is to inform all aspirants who wish to apply for admission in Nigeria into any of federal, state or private owned universities to study English Language and Literature under the faculty of Arts and Humanities that the NECO and WAEC requirements which includes the compulsory subjects needed for English Language and Literature has been published here in this post.

WAEC And NECO Subject Requirements for English Language and Literature

The subjects required to study English Language and Literature in both WAEC and NECO are as follows:

Five SSCE credit passes to include Literature in English and English Language and three other Arts or Social Science subjects.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) AUN accepts:

A’ level passes chosen from English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Government, History, Literature in English, Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Visual Arts, Computer Studies, Information Technology, Civics, Environmental Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and French.

(ii) UNIBEN accept TCII at merit level.

(iii) UI requires 5 or 6 ‘O’ level credit passes at one or two sittings to include Lit-in-English, English Language, one other Arts subject and any other two or three subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Science.

(iv) AUN does not offer admissions direct to 200 level programs and may transfer credits relevant to it’s major at the discretion of the Dean of school.

(v) AUN accepts:

a. A’ level passes chosen from English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Government, History, Literature in English, Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Visual Arts, Computer Studies, Information Technology, Civics, Environmental Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and French.
b. ND/HND
c. ICGSE and ‘A’ level Cambridge

(vi) AUN does not accept credit passes in the following; Agriculture, Food and Nutrition, Home Economics, Home Craft, Home management, Physical Education, Physical and Health Education, Music, Commerce, Accounting, Financial Accounting, Book keeping, Islamic History, Religious Studies, Tajweed, Library Studies, Diction, Kiswahili, Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Arabic, Turkish, Study skills.

(vii) NTNU accepts any Arts/Social Science subject.

The O level (WAEC and NECO)  requirements posted above may only apply to English Language and Literature under the faculty of Arts and Humanities.
