JAMB Subject Combination For Home Economics and Education

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Home Economics and Education under the Faculty of Education in the institutions listed above are:

Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and one other subject.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) IAUED requires at least one Science subject.

(ii) MOUA requires Chemistry, Biology/ Agricultural Science, and Mathematics/ Physics as UTME subjects.

(iii) UNIBEN requires Biology/Agricultural Science and any other two Science or Social Science subjects.

(iv) EBSU requires a Social Science subject as the third subject.

(v) UNILAG requires one other subject of mathematics and physics.

(vi) BSU requires Mathematics, Chemistry and Economics/ Commerce.

(vii) UNN requires Chemistry OR Biology plus any other two science or social science subjects like Agricultural Science, Home Economics, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce and Geography.

O Level (WAEC and NECO) Requirements For Home Economics and Education

In order to study Home Economics and Education in the University, you will need to pass the following requirements in your O level result which can either be WAEC or NECO or even both:
Five SSCE NTC/NBC credits or TC II merit passes including English language, Mathematics, Home Economics, Biology and Chemistry.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UNIBEN requires at least a pass in Chemistry and a credit pass in Biology/Agric Science.

(ii) IAUED requires at least one Science subject.

(iii) DELSU requires credit in Biology, Home Economics and at least a pass in Mathematics/Chemistry.

(iv) UNIUYO requires a credit pass in Chemistry.

(v) UNILAG requires Chemistry, Mathematics and any other one subject of Home Economics, Food and Nutrition, Clothing and textile, Home Management, Biology/ Agric. Science or Physics.

(vi) EBSU requires five `O` level credits in English, Mathematics, and any three of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Food and Nutrition, Clothing and textile, Home Management.

(vii) ABU requires Five ‘O’ level credits Mathematics/English Language/Home Economics, Biology, Geography, Physics/Chemistry.

Old Grade II
Five Passes including Arithmetic/English/Domestic Science.

New Grade II Teachers Certificate
Five Credits including English, Mathematics, Home Economics.

NB:
Note one (1) Home Economics subject is required i.e Foods and Nutrition or Home Management or Textile and Clothing.

(viii) UNN requires five ‘O’ level credits which must include ANY TWO of the following: Home Management, Clothing and Textiles, Food and Nutrition, Biology,Chemistry, Physics, Agricultural Science, Economics, Cosmetology, Garment Making and Catering Craft at WASC/ WASSCE/GCE ‘O’ level / /NABTEB/NECO plus UNN minimum entry requirement.

(ix) ABSU requires Five SSCE credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Chemistry and any two other subjects.

(x) BSU requires Credits in English, Mathematics, Biology and any 2 of the following subjects Home Management, Clothing and Textiles Food and Nutrition, Chemistry, Agricultural Science and Economics.

Direct Entry Requirements For Home Economics and Education

To apply for Home Economics and Education as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: (i) NCE in Home Economics with a minimum of merit pass.

(ii) GCE ‘A’ level in two of Chemistry and any Biology, Botany and Agric Science.

(iii) ND/HND Home Economics (credit level) or Food Science or Hotel and Catering Management or any other related course.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UNN:
(a) 3-Year Degree Programme. Any of the following in addition to UTME requirement:
A minimum of Merit level pass at NCE in Home Economics, A minimum of lower credit in ND in Fashion and Clothing Management Education OR Home Economics OR Home and Rural Economics OR Hotel and Catering.
(b) Candidates with a University Degree in any discipline in addition to the departmental UTME requirement may be considered for direct entry admission for a three year programme.

(ii) UNIBEN:
a. requires 2/3 merit level passes in NCE including Home Economics plus 3/2 ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Biology/Agricultural Science with a pass in Chemistry.

(iii) UNILAG accepts;
(a) Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects: Chemistry, Biology and one other subject from Economics, Food and Nutrition, Home Management, and Clothing and Textile.
(b) Two A/Level passes in two relevant Science Subjects of Chemistry and any one from Biology, Botany and Agric. Science.
(c) NCE or OND (Distinction) in Home Economics, Catering and Hotel Management, Textile Management and any other relevant subject with a minimum of merit pass.
(d) HND Home Economics or Food Science or Food Technology or Hotel Management, or any other related courses at a minimum of merit pass.

(iv) ABU accepts GCE ‘A’ level/IJMB in two of Chemistry and any Biology, Botany and Agric Science.

(v) EBSU accepts HND, NCE and ND with a minimum of Merit and Upper credit respectively in the relevant fields.

(vi) DELSU NCE holders may be given waiver for chemistry.

(vii) BSU:
a) Preliminary degree candidates (from Benue State University, Makurdi only) must pass at least five (5) out of the six (6) subjects studied with pass level of at least 50% in each subject.
b). NCE use of English is acceptable in lieu of ‘0’ level credit pass in SSCE/NTC/NBC or GCE ‘0’ level in English Language.

(viii) ‘A’ level pass in any of the acceptable subjects supersede ‘0’ level pass in the subject.
