College of Nursing Specialty Programmes at Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Makurdi Campus is pleased to inform the general public that the sale of admission forms for 2025/2026 academic session has commenced.
These programmes train Registered Nurses (RNs) in advanced methods of specialized practice in nursing. By enrolling in any of the programmes, candidates will gain in-depth knowledge and practical training to occupy leadership and expert positions in different care-giving environments.
The programmes are designed to meet the growing need for specialized nursing care and to create a pool of nurses who can provide quality service in urban or rural settings. Open-minded and qualified candidates are always welcome to apply and use it to build their careers.
Admission into the programme is open to all qualified Registered Nurses, provided they meet the entry requirements as stated. Forms are now available and can be obtained through the specified application channels.

Eligibility Requirements for Nursing Program Application
To be eligible to apply for this program, all of these requirements must be met by the applicants. These requirements are set to ensure that only deserving nursing individuals are admitted for learning and training.
1. Hold a Valid Registered Nurse (RN) Certificate.
Applicants must be licensed-nurses with a passed recognition-career in nursing leading to a Registered Nurse (RN) pass. This certificate is a proof that an individual has received formal training and is eligible to practice nursing in a clinical setting.
2. Current Practising Licence
As registered, candidates must have an updated practising licence. This licence explains that the person is still in practice in the nursing profession and it is legal for him to provide nursing services. Licences which have expired or are inactive are not acceptable and may lead to disqualification.
3. Academic Qualifications – Five Credit Passes
Applicants must have at least five credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Biology
- Chemistry
These subjects must have been passed at credit level in WAEC or NECO or NABTEB.
4. Examinations Accepted and Sitting Conditions
Results are acceptable from any of the three national examination bodies: WAEC, NECO or NABTEB. Candidates can combine results from two different sittings but only under the following conditions:
- Combination must be from WAEC and NECO, WAEC and WAEC or NECO and NECO.
- Maximum of two sittings allowed.
- Combination involving NABTEB must adhere to institutional policies if any.
5. Minimum of One Year Post-Qualification Experience
Applicants must have completed at least one year of professional nursing practice after qualification as a Registered Nurse. This practical experience is essential as it provides hands on experience and builds confidence and competence for higher level of learning.
6. Approval for Full-Time Study from Employer
For candidates currently employed, a letter of release / official approval from the current employer is required. There must be an indication in this document to show that the applicant has been granted permission to study full time. This approval is necessary as the programme may include course works, clinical rotations and academic commitments that may alter one’s work schedule.
