The management of University of Jos has released a statement about Unijos matriculation ceremony which had many students matriculated during the academic session.
The official statement from the management of Unijos concerning the matriculation is shown below:
University of Jos has Matriculated about 7000 fresh students into its various undergraduate programmes.Unijos Matriculation exercise for 2015/2015 academic session was held at the J.T. Useini Stadium, Naraguta Campus of the University.
Former Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Hayward Mafuyai who presided over the ceremony as one of his last official functions before the expiry of his tenure as Vice-Chancellor, said statistics had indicated that Thirty-Two Thousand and Six (32,006) candidates chose the University of Jos as their first choice of study during the admission exercise for 2015/2016 Academic Session adding that Twenty-Five Thousand, Five Hundred and Seventy-Eight (25,578) applied through UTME and Six Thousand, Four Hundred and Twenty-Eight (6,428) applied through Direct Entry.
Prof. Mafuyai observed that the candidates’ choice of University of Jos over other Universities in the Country is a vote of confidence on the University’s globally recognized tradition of academic excellence.
He encouraged the matriculating Students to fully participate in University activities including academic, sporting and religious activities while also registering as members of the various clubs and societies duly recognized by the University authorities saying that as they pass through the University, the University should also pass through them.
“The main objective of this Matriculation is to acquaint you with the fundamental principles, directives and ethics of our institution. The core values stand us out for distinctive ranking as a Centre for learning and character molding of our students.” Prof. Mafuyai said.
The new Students were strongly advised against engaging in improper dressing, cultism, and examination mal-practices but should effectively utilize Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities as well as library facilities in the University which were among the best in Nigeria.
The Matriculation ceremony which was the first to be held in the J.T. Useini Mini Stadium, Naraguta Campus of the University had an unprecedented number of students, friends and relatives of the Matriculants in attendance.
