UNC Academic Calendar 2023

UNC Academic Calendar 2023-2024 has been displayed on this page to help you know the various activities conducted by the school. Academic calendars serve as tools for defining the significant dates that shape much of the institution’s daily operations.

Each academic calendar includes deadlines for cancellation, withdrawal, and dropping classes, along with other significant dates that vary depending on the type of calendar. It is important to consider how the dates on academic calendars impact all business operations, such as class registration, tuition reimbursements, and statistical reporting, when creating them. Many of Campus Solutions’ apps use dates from the academic calendar for various business operations.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the nation’s first public university, is a global higher education leader known for innovative teaching, research, and public service.

The university offers degrees in over 70 courses of study and is administratively divided into 13 separate professional schools and a primary unit, the College of Arts & Sciences. It is classified among “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity”, and is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU). According to the National Science Foundation, UNC spent $1.14 billion on research and development in 2018, ranking 12th in the nation.

The campus covers 729 acres (3 km2) of Chapel Hill’s downtown area, encompassing the Morehead Planetarium and the many stores and shops located on Franklin Street. Students can participate in over 550 officially recognized student organizations. UNC Chapel Hill is one of the charter members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, which was founded on June 14, 1953. The university’s athletic teams compete as the Tar Heels.

Deadlines for Fall 2023

Add classes – Full Term*

Friday, August 25

Drop Classes – Full Term*

Friday, September 1

Withdraw Class(es) – Full Term*

Fri, December 1

*Courses that do not meet the entire semester have their own add/drop/withdrawal and grade replacement deadlines. Please see “Your Course Drop/Withdrawal Deadlines” on the Student tab in Ursa or see the Special Term/Short Course Report.

The first date to withdraw from individual courses is the first class-day immediately after the drop deadline for full semester courses. The last date to withdraw from individual courses or request a complete schedule withdrawal from the Office of the Registrar is the Friday prior to Final Exam week. Respective full semester course withdrawal deadlines are published on the Office of the Registrar website.

After your initial registration, you may need to add, drop or withdraw from a class. Generally, all of those actions can be completed in Ursa and each item has potential implications for financial aid, tuition and your transcript.  If you’re thinking about any of these adjustments, remember to watch the deadlines!
