JAMB Subject Combination For Pure / Applied Mathematics
In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Pure / Applied Mathematics under the Faculty of Sciences in the institutions listed above are:
Mathematics, Physics and Biology or Agric Science or Chemistry or Geography
Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks
(i) UNIBEN accepts Mathematics, Physics and any of Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science.
(ii) UNIPORT requires Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry and Economics and does not accept Geography
O Level (WAEC and NECO) Requirements For Pure / Applied Mathematics
In order to study Pure / Applied Mathematics in the University, you will need to pass the following requirements in your O level result which can either be WAEC or NECO or even both:
Five SSCE credit passes including English Language, Physics, Maths, Chemistry and Biology/Agric Science or Geography
Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks
(i) UNIPORT requires Biology.
(ii) UNIBEN accepts Economics as the fifth subject.
Direct Entry Requirements For Pure / Applied Mathematics
To apply for Pure / Applied Mathematics as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: (i) Two ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics and any other Science subject.
(ii) NCE/HND (merit) /ND (Upper credit) in Mathematics
Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks
(i) LAUTECH accepts ND (upper credit), HND (lower credit), NCE (credit) in relevant fields into 200 level or ‘A’ Level Passes in Mathematics , Physics,, Chemistry or Biology
(ii) UNIPORT – No Direct Entry.
(iii) UNIBEN in addition to UTME requirements, accepts:
(a) ND (Upper credit) / HND (Lower credit) in Mathematics / Statistics or Science Laboratory Technology;
(b) NCE (Overall Merit) with credit passes in Mathematics and Physics.
(iv) PAUL accepts passes in Mathematics, Pure and Applied Physics or Chemistry or Biology or Statistics at GCE Advanced or its equivalent
