This is to inform all aspirants who wish to apply for admission in Nigeria into any of federal, state or private owned universities to study Library and Information Science under the faculty of Education that the NECO and WAEC requirements which includes the compulsory subjects needed for Library and Information Science has been published here in this post.

WAEC And NECO Subject Requirements for Library and Information Science

The subjects required to study Library and Information Science in both WAEC and NECO are as follows:

Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant Arts/Science/Social Science subjects.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UMYU requires five O/Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and any other three Social Science/Arts/Science subjects.

(ii) TASUED requires five credits at one sitting or six credits at two sittings.

(iii) UNIOSUN same as in Vocational and Technical Education.

(iv) UNN requires University minimum entry requirements with five O’ level credit passes, including the subject to be combined with Library and Information Science. The following additional requirements apply to particular combination:
(a) Credit in Mathematics for Library and Information Science/Physics and Library and Information Science/Economics.
(b) Credit in Mathematics/Physics for Library and Information Science/ Chemistry.
(c) Pass in Mathematics for those combining library and Information Science with Botany, Geography/Physics, Political Science or Zoology.
(d) Credit in English Language for those combining Library and Information Science with French, History or Political Science.
(e) credit in English Literature for Library and Information Science/English.

(v) ABSU requires Five SSCE credit passes to include English Language, four other subjects and at least a pass in Mathematics.

(vi) KSU accepts a pass in Mathematics and credit passes in four other relevant subjects including English Language.

(vii) UNIBEN accepts five O’ level credit passes at not more than two sittings.

(viii) UNIJOS requires five credit passes in WASCE or NECO at not more than two sittings including English Language. Accepts a pass in Mathematics.

The O level (WAEC and NECO)  requirements posted above may only apply to Library and Information Science under the faculty of Education. If the Library and Information Science you intend in studying is in another faculty, the subject requirements may be different from the one on this page.
